J. D. Souther
John David Souther (born November 2, 1945) is an American singer, songwriter, and actor. He has written and co-written songs recorded by Linda Ronstadt and Eagles. Souther is known for his songwriting abilities, especially in the field of country rock. He co-wrote some of the biggest hits for Eagles, including " Best of My Love", "Victim of Love", "Heartache Tonight", and "New Kid in Town". " How Long", which appears on Eagles' ''Long Road Out of Eden'', was written by Souther and originally recorded on his first solo album in 1972. Souther recorded two major hit songs in his solo career: "You're Only Lonely" (1979) and "Her Town Too" (1981), a duet with his longtime friend James Taylor. Career Souther was born in Detroit, Michigan, but raised in Amarillo, Texas. His first recordings were with a local group called The Cinders, who traveled to the nearby Norman Petty Studios in Clovis, New Mexico. "New Kid in Town" is a song by the Eagles from their 1976 studio album ''Hotel California''. It was written by Don Henley, Glenn Frey and J.D. Souther. Released as the first single from the album, the song reached number one in the U.S. and number 20 in the UK. The single version has an earlier fade-out than the album version. The song features Glenn Frey singing the lead vocals, with Don Henley singing main harmony vocals. Amos Records
Amos Records was an independent record label established in Los Angeles, California by Jimmy Bowen, in 1968. The label was located on 6565 Sunset Boulevard, and had an additional office branch in New York City. With Bowen producing most of Amos Records' music artists, the label released material from 1968 to 1971, and was best remembered for issuing an album by Longbranch Pennywhistle, which consisted of material from future contributors to of The Eagles. Other notable artists included Bing Crosby, Mel Carter, and The West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band. Some of Amos' later releases were distributed by Bell Records. Jimmy Bowen
James Albert Bowen (born November 30, 1937) is an American record producer and former rockabilly singer. Bowen brought Nancy Sinatra and Lee Hazlewood together, and introduced Sinatra to Mel Tillis for their album, ''Mel & Nancy.'' Early life Bowen was born in Santa Rita, New Mexico, United States. His family moved to Dumas, Texas, when he was eight years old. Singing career Bowen began as a teenage recording star in 1957 with " I'm Stickin' with You". The song started as the flip side of the hit record " Party Doll" by Buddy Knox (written by Knox and Bowen), but ultimately hit the charts on its own, peaking at No. 14 on ''Billboards Hot 100 chart. Bowen's version sold over one million copies, and was awarded a gold record. ''Longbranch Pennywhistle'' is an early-in-genre country rock album by Longbranch Pennywhistle, a duo featuring the then-little-known Glenn Frey and John David Souther. It also contains strains of folk rock. It was released in 1970; the duo split up shortly afterwards. AllMusic's review of the album called it low-key and less commercial than the Eagles would be. Glenn Lewis Frey (; November 6, 1948 – January 18, 2016) was an American singer, guitarist and a founding member of the rock band Eagles. Frey was the co-lead singer and frontman for the Eagles, roles he came to share with fellow member Don Henley, with whom he wrote most of the Eagles' material. Norman Petty
Norman Petty (May 25, 1927 – August 15, 1984) was an American musician, record producer, publisher, radio station owner, and considered to be one of the founding fathers of early rock & roll. Biography Petty was born in the small town of Clovis, New Mexico. He began playing piano at a young age. While in high school, he regularly performed on a 15-minute show on a local radio station. After his graduation in 1945, he was drafted into the United States Air Force. When he returned, he married his high-school sweetheart Violet Ann Brady on June 20, 1948. The couple lived briefly in Dallas, Texas, where Petty worked as a part-time engineer at a recording studio. Eventually, they moved back to their hometown of Clovis. Clovis is a city in and the county seat of Curry County, New Mexico, Curry County, New Mexico.
